Contributions

System Design and Strategy

  • Defined structure for modular, prefab-based toolkit in Unity

  • Established naming conventions and prefab structures to ensure dev useability

UX Guidance & UI Style Guidelines

  • Created the in-depth UI document outlining VR common pitfalls and and best practices

  • Identified issues of UI implementation in current Studios projects

Visual Design Systems

  • Implemented Figma design system for VR UI package, that covered component design and layout, colour palettes, iconography and informed prefab component configuration

  • Composed UI style guidelines that outlined the core design for Immerse UI and provided a blueprint for visual rules and functionality for internal and external teams

  • Provided design consultations to ensure consistent implementation of new components

  • Worked closely with developers to improve prefab component and theming system implementation and useability in Unity

Asset Creation

  • Created optimised sprites for use in prefabs, set up prefabs, developed reflection for glass effect,

Problem
  • Each project required bespoke UI elements and interaction logic, which led to duplicated effort, inconsistence design and UX

  • VR introduces new challenges: conventional UI/UX design don’t utilise the unique VR capabilities

  • Hand and laser pointer interactions needed clarity or flexibility

Key Constraints

  • Optimised assets for use on mobile headsets, serve a range of industries and user types, visual clarity at distances, easy customisation of theme or branded UI, inconsistency in button placement, hand positions

Solution

We created a robust prefab-based UI system with features such as:

  • Tooltips with a range of placement options and features

  • 3D button types with states and animations: buttons, scrollbars, sliders, switches, toggles

  • Built in animation layers for windows and pop menus

  • Customisable windows layouts that featured multiple pages and NPC interactions

  • Components that scaled with the height of the user

  • Navigation panel that sat outside the window to utilise 3D space

  • Glass and parallax effects highlight immerse spaces

The final SDK UI & Interaction Package has been implemented across multiple projects for industries ranging from healthcare, oil & gas, pharmaceutical and logistics. It drastically reduced development time, successfully elevated menu interactions across all apps, streamlined design processes and bought cohesion to overall brand experience.
